Tips for Great Professional Headshots

Q: How to choose a photographer for your headshot portfolio?

You should take care in selecting a professional headshot photographer that specialized in headshot photography. Have a look through their portfolio to ensure that they are experienced.

Q: Which is better for your headshot, studio or natural light?

The majority of my photo shoots are done outside using natural light. However, I also typically use a couple of portable strobes for hair and side lighting. (Please know that depending on the weather, natural light may not be the best choice for your photography session)

Q: How long will my acting headshot session be?

I allow four hours for each photography session, including hair and makeup. Since men don't need the time for makeup, their sessions are usually closer to two hours. On average, I can provide you with 250-350 high res images during this time frame.

Q: Do I really need a professional hair and makeup artist for my headshot?

I highly encourage you to use my wonderful hair and makeup artists Krista and Mindy. We have been working together, with terrific results, for the past seven years. Both girls usually stay for a portion of the session as well, making sure you always look your best.

Finally: don't stress. Headshots should be fun--and I'll do everything possible to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as I can.
